The Gift Of The Magi is a popular short story written by O.Henry the gift of the magi is an unconventional celebration of love. the story has been set during the time of Christmas in Newyork. o.henry tells has the story of a poor couple Jim and Della who take great pride in their possessions of Jim's watch and Della's beautiful hair. 

The story tells about a young married couple Jim and Della. the couple has little money and lives in a modest and smallest apartment. they have only two possessions that they consider their treasures one Jim's gold pocket watch that from his father and his grandfather.
another one is Della's long hair that falls almost to her knees it is Christmas eve Della finds her self in here one dollar and eighty-seven cents after paying all bills. because she has to buy a gift or presentation for lovely husband Jim Della get disappointed.

Della wants to buy a platinum chain for Jim's watch. but she is all out of her price range. Della runs into the home falls down her beautiful hair stands in front of the mirror. she started to think she got a sudden inspiration she again runs out and she decided to cut her hair and sale. Della receives twenty dollars for selling off her hair it is enough to buy the platinum chain which she saw in a shop. Della returns to home and makes her short hair repair. then she engaged with preparing coffee and dinner.

when Jim comes home it is seven o clock when Della open the door he looks at Della. jim trying to figure out what difference about della. she confesses that she sold her hair to buy a presentation. jim take off a pocket from his cover coat. Della took and she finds a pair of beautiful combs but they know useless. then she cried and hiding tears she wants to give a special gift for him but Jim ends head down on to the sofa falls he sold his watch to buy her hair combs.

 the story ends with a comparison of Jim and Della's gifts to the gift of Magi [the three wise man] the author concludes that Jim and Della are wiser than the magi because they gifts are gifts of love. they know the value of self-giving love.
