DEATH BE NOT PROUD

SUMMARY:-                                                     

John Donne was an English poet who considered has the pre-eminent representative of the metaphysical poets. his works are noted for his strong and sensual style and include sonnets. he has written love poems, Latin translations, religious poems, and elegies. Donne sonnet 10 is also known by its opening line "Death Be Not Proud" is one of the popular poems of English literature. this sonnet was published after the death of John Donne in 1633. so it is considered as Donne's holy sonnet or divine sonnet it follows the English or Shakespearean sonnet form. this sonnet made up of three quatrains and a concluding couplet. 

the first quatrain focuses on the death. by addressing death. Donne makes into a character. the poet warns death to avoid pride and reconsider its position as a mighty and dreadful he ends the first quatrain by saying to death that those it claims to kill 'die not' 

The second quatrain, which is closely criticism of death as less than fearful into praise for death's good quality, from death comes much pleasure since those good souls whom death released from earthly suffering experience rest of the bones.  John Donne then returns to criticizing death for thinking too highly of itself. death is not sovereign but it is a slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men. though a desperate man can choose death for an escape from earthly suffering even the rest which death offers can be achieved better by poppy or charms.

the final couplet caps the argument against death not only is death the servant of other powers but also death is itself destined to die when its time comes.
