Anjappa’s Cock Tale’ was written by Masti Venkatesha Iyenger. This is a short
story. In this short story, we can see the story of an old man called Anjappa.
The narrator starts this story by giving a picture of the village and character
introduction of Anjappa. The main object of this short story is ‘Cock’. The story
is all about thief. We can also see how Indian Judiciary works in India. The narrator beautifully sketched the plot so that everyone can understand this story. This story
tells us so many present issues that take place in every society.
Plot:- Anjappa is an old man who roams all around the various
villages in his getup to beg by singing. Here we can’t say begging because
their profession is like that came from their ancestors. Their job of them is that
they have to wear a getup and go to
every near village and start singing in front of every house and get a small
amount of ration in their bag called ‘Jolige’.
Anjappa wants
to meet Rangappa who became the magistrate of that place. Anjappa wants to talk
with Rangappa to share something. Anjappa told him that you have to look deeply
before giving any judgment. Rangappa Asked the question to Anjappa why are you
telling this to me have you ever been involved in a crime. Anjappa started to
answer his question that he has to accept a thieve that he has not done.
Anjappa saves a girl by hiding the truth in front of a judge. Anjappa has to pay
the fine given by the court.
One day as usual Anjappa went to his job. Anjappa meets a young lady and started to sing for her. That lady became happy and asked some questions to him. The lady gave him a cock as a gift and told him to not tell to anyone that I gave it to you. Aanjappa without knowing the hidden truth takes the cock with him. After some time the mother-in-law of that lady searches for Anjappa with her servant. Anjappa sat under the tree to take some rest. The old lady caught him with the cock and asked him how this came to you. Anjappa saw that young lady's sign that not tell the truth to her. After he has to pay a fine or have to go for jail which is given by the judge after the court discussion.
