Tothapuri Kannada Movie Detail Review

Today I saw a Kannada movie called Tothapuri. In this movie, I saw how caste and religion behave in the social context of daily life. The movie's runtime is 2 hours. First I want to mention the story of the movie. The main character of the movie is Eregowda, who is a tailor. Eregowda loves a girl named Bhanu and expresses his love to her with a different angle. Another main character is Rangamma, who is an owner of a nonveg hotel and she doesn’t have children. Rangamma adopted a child from the orphanage. The boy is a Muslim but Rangamma raises him as her own child. Another character is Ningamma who belongs to a low caste and works as a maid in many houses but sometimes she was hurt by the owner. Rayaru and Church lady is also other important characters in this movie. The film will end without a conclusion and keep suspense in the next part of the movie.

The Important scenes of the movie give us intellectual thought.

1.  1. Conversation Between Bhanu and Brahmin lady

In the first scene, I felt that we have to change our minds. When Bhanu enters Hindu Temple and has Prasada. When a Brahmin Lady came near asked multiple questions to Bhanu. The lady asked her if you have your god called Allah but you came here to worship. Bhanu replied that we don’t look for water quality when we are thirsty. This means all gods are the same but in different ways. The brahmin lady ask another question you people ate nonveg and you feel tasty our kosambari. For that question, she looks anxious. We have to think like intellectuals that we have to think that all gods are the same but we gave different names to gods.

2.  2. Ningamma  was insulted by the ladies based on her caste

Ningamma is a character that represents the low caste. Ningamma works as a maid in many houses. In the first scene was she insulted that when she enters the hall of the home, the owner of the home gave a plate of food to her daughter to give to the maid by instructing that don’t touch her. Ningamma heard this conversation and felt insulted and answered to the child that a house dog is different than a street dog.

The second time she was insulted by another owner when Ningamma have her monthly periods early. Ningamma asked the owner to give her a sanitary pad but the owner accepts to give the pad on the condition that she doesn’t have to wear it in her bathroom. The lady also told her that when you have your period don’t come to work because we will feel impure in our home. She is so furious and gave back the pad and told you are also a woman.

The third time she was insulted, she left her maid position and went to a workshop and learned tailoring. In the third incident, she was dishonored by the owner that not giving a gift to his hand but put in the ground.
